The Statesville City Council approved several zoning and development requests Monday night that would affect more than 300 single-family homes and townhomes to be built in the city.

The two requests show how developers are approaching the uncertainties of development and real estate, even in a growing market like Statesville.

The city first unanimously approved the first reading of a rezoning request for the Oaks at James Farm. The property is at the intersection of Jane Sowers and James Farm roads.

The applicant, Christopher LaMack on behalf of Elevation Real Estate Group, requested to rezone a total of 16.64 acres from Iredell County R-20 (Single-Family Residential) District to City of Statesville R-5MF CZ (High Density Multi-Family Residential Conditional Zoning) District, to build a
