A bizarre incident unfolded in Saskatoon when a man attempted to break into a couple's home, only to end up hiding in their attic. Matthew Hardy and his wife, Karen, were enjoying a movie late Saturday night when their peaceful evening took a shocking turn.
Around midnight, Hardy noticed a frantic man, covered in leaves and dirt, trying to force his way through the sliding door of their Varsity View home. After calling the police, four officers arrived to search the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The couple settled in to watch a horror-comedy film, _Death of a Unicorn_, hoping the worst was over.
However, an hour later, the situation escalated. "All of a sudden we hear 'boom, boom, boom' out of nowhere and the house is shaking," Hardy recounted. The intruder had returned, climbing onto the deck railing, then up an elm tree, and finally onto the roof.
Hardy described the unsettling sounds that followed: "Then all of a sudden you can hear splintering and cracking. And I said, 'Karen, he's trying to get in the house.'" The couple could hear the man crawling across the insulation in their ceiling, making it easy to track his movements.
Fearing for their safety, they called the police again. Officers quickly got on the roof and discovered a hole where a vent had been torn off. Using a drone, they located the suspect hiding in a corner of the attic, buried under insulation.
Police accessed the attic through a hatch in a bedroom closet and successfully dragged the man out. As he was being escorted from the house, he humorously remarked, "Don't forget my shirt," which Hardy found amusing. Officers later retrieved the man's shirt and a sock that had fallen into the roof gutter.
Authorities confirmed that a 33-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with break and enter in connection with the incident.
