GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - An Aurora man is getting a longer stay in prison after skipping a sentencing hearing on a previous drug conviction.
Court records show 33-year-old Austin Renschler was sentenced to six months in prison for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and for resisting arrest. A separate charge of failure to appear in court was dropped in a plea bargain.
Renschler was convicted in December of possession of a controlled substance and felony theft and later skipped an April sentencing hearing on those charges. Grand Island Police arrested him days later after a chase involving a pickup.
According to GIPD, an officer saw a red Silverado truck with a non-functioning tail light. Police said when the officer tried to stop the truck, it sped off.
