Residents gathered on the Main Street Bridge’s sidewalks in downtown Lynchburg on Saturday morning as part of the “Families First” day of action, a national mobilization to oppose cuts to federal social programs.
The residents held signs and banners on the overpass that read “care, not cuts” and “family need, not billionaire greed” for drivers to see as they passed by on the Lynchburg Expressway and Main Street.
The events in Lynchburg and across the nation took place in response to the “one big beautiful bill” that passed Congress and was signed into law by President Donald Trump on July 4 and other actions taken by the Trump administration over the past six months.
