NEW YORK (PIX11) – Did you know that you need a license for your dog in New York City?
All dogs are required to have a license attached to their collars when they’re out in public, according to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Officials said dog owners could face a fine for not having a license.
You’re able to apply for a dog license online or receive an application by mail by calling 311. If you’re dog is spayed or neutered, the license costs $8.50 per year, according to NYC Health. Licenses for dogs under four months old that cannot be spayed or neutered yet will also cost $8.50, and for dogs over four months that haven’t been fixed, you’ll spend $34 per year.
Officials said if you don’t renew your dog license, you can be charged $2 every year past the expiration date.
