NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A North Providence town employee accused of tricking a coworker into drinking windshield washer fluid was taken into custody Monday.

Alessio D'Andrea, 29, of Johnston, has been charged with poisoning another. He has been on unpaid administrative leave since the incident, which happened the last week of June.

Police said D'Andrea filled an empty Gatorade bottle with windshield washer fluid while two of his coworkers watched. He then reportedly placed the sports drink into a shared refrigerator in the repair division of the Department of Public Works building.

An unsuspecting repair division employee grabbed the sports drink and started drinking it, according to police.
