CLIO, S.C. (WBTW) -- Clio's grassroots efforts to bring a playground into the town center was recognized last week with a Municipal Association of South Carolina achievement award.
"In small towns like Clio, it takes a community to make a project like this happen," Mayor Adam Pate said.
Town leaders in 2023 set a $75,000 fundraising goal to pay for construction of the park -- ultimately collecting $130,000 and opening the facility during last year's Cotton Festival.
In addition to modern playground equipment, a gazebo and LED lighting, expansions are planned for electric connections for food trucks along with space for walking trails and a dog park.
