CHICAGO (WGN) — A man was hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting and crash on the city's Northwest Side on Wednesday afternoon.

Chicago police say the incident unfolded just before 7 p.m. in the 3100 block of North Kimball Avenue in Avondale as the victim, a 32-year-old man, was driving.

As the man drove south along Kimball, officers said a light colored pickup truck with two unknown male offenders inside approached and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his head amid the gunfire and eventually crashed his car into a residence in the area.

The victim was later taken to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
