BENNINGTON – Supporters searching for a definitive sign that the $55 million Benn High project is moving forward have the news they’ve sought.

A closing on the multi-piece financing package for the redevelopment project took place Wednesday, town officials said, apparently clearing the way for full construction at the 650 Main Street site.

The long-planned project to transform the historic former Bennington High School complex into housing units and space for municipal and other uses is a public/private partnership between the town and developer Hale Resources LLC.

It is being financed through a complex range of tax credits, state and federal grants, low-interest loans, town funding and private investment that has now been officially confirmed.
