CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Severe weather rolled through the Charlotte metro on Friday, August 1, bringing with them heavy winds and rain. Storm reports began rolling in early in the afternoon across several counties, including reports of downed trees and power lines .

Flights at Charlotte Douglas International Airport were also impacted. A ground stop was issued and initially set to last until 5:30 p.m. However, that ground stop was extended to 6 p.m. at least.

Data from the flight-tracking website FlightAware confirmed the storms' impact on travel. As of 5:45 p.m., 397 flights at the airport had been delayed. 86 flights were canceled as well.
