THE DALLES, Ore. — Samples from the wastewater treatment plant in The Dalles exceed acceptable levels of E. coli and the city is warning residents to avoid contact.

The city said the issue was caused by an "incomplete disinfection" of the system. Although the specific cause remains under investigation.

Test results this past Friday and additional testing on Saturday confirmed the water is still contaminated.

Officials say additional water quality monitoring is ongoing and staff have increased the frequency of sampling until E. coli counts are back within permitted limits.
