CHARLESTON, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace is entering the race for the state’s highest office.

Mace, currently in her third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced her intention to run for governor during an event Monday morning in Charleston.

She’s expected to join a crowded primary field that includes current Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, current South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, state Sen. Josh Kimbrell and Mace’s House colleague, Rep. Ralph Norman.

The announcement follows months of speculation after Mace first mentioned she was considering a run during an interview earlier this year with The Associated Press.
