The U.S. Food & Drug Administration has elevated the classification of a butter recall due to an undeclared milk allergen not listed on the label
Bunge North America recalled more than 64,000 pounds of its NH European Style Butter Blend distributed to 12 centers across the United States and one in the Dominican Republic, according to a July 14 FDA alert.
On July 30, the agency elevated the recall to Class II, the second-highest risk category, warning consumers the butter could pose temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.
The FDA didn’t say whether anyone had been affected in connection with the recall. The agency lists milk on its website as one of nine major food allergens that can cause adverse reactions in sensitive individuals.
