LUMBERTON — The City of Lumberton will celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday with the creation of a mural in downtown which showcases the city’s natural beauty.
City Council voted to endorse the project during its monthly meeting Monday at City Hall.
The city was awarded a $30,000 grant through America 250, the initiative which is organizing the country’s semiquincentennial celebrations on and around July 4, 2026, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
The mural will be located on the side of the former Kimbrell’s Furniture location on Chestnut Street, across from the Carolina Civic Center. It will include imagery highlighting the Lumber River and Robeson County’s agricultural heritage.
