LUMBERTON — Road work resulting in off-and-on closures on the main thoroughfare between Lumberton and Red Springs is nearing completion.

A short stretch of N.C. Highway 211 about three miles west of Interstate 95 has been closed from Monday through Thursday each week since July 7 as the N.C. Department of Transportation works to replace pipes that run beneath the highway.

The closure is near where the highway intersects Mt. Olive Church Road. Detour signs direct traffic onto Carthage Road and Piney Grove Road to get around the closure.

NCDOT has completed one pipe replacement over those four days of closure each week, then reopen the road for the weekend before beginning another replacement on Monday. This week the road closure ran through Friday morning, as the work was delayed slightl
