The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration gave an updated forecast for the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season on Thursday as the season nears the late-summer and early-fall period which historically provides its peak.
NOAA’s outlook was nearly the same as its initial seasonal forecast given back in March, favoring an above-average season. Forecasters expect the number of named storms in the Atlantic to range between 13 and 18 (winds of 39 mph or more), with between five and nine hurricanes forecasted (winds of 74 mph or more) and between two and five major hurricanes (winds of 111 mph or more). These adjusted ranges are inclusive of the four named storms which have already occurred within the current hurricane season.
The department’s initial forecast was for 13 to 19 named storms,
