WASHINGTON — A new report by the Washington Metropolitan Safety Commission (WMSC) has found that the Metro radio system remains unreliable and is still a safety hazard despite system renovations that have been ongoing since 2016.

The report calls for WMATA to expedite work to complete the radio upgrade project as soon as possible.

The report found that between February and April of this year, Metro saw 15 systemwide radio outages, with some lasting as long as an hour. In one case, on Jan. 29, a person was hit and killed by a train on the Red Line, but the response was delayed by radio issues.
