GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man faces trial in October in connection with a bar fight which put the victim in the hospital.

Gabriel Contreras, 44, is charged with first-degree assault after an altercation outside McKinney’s Irish Pub in June.

Witnesses told police that on June 16, Contreras walked up and punched a man in the face, causing him to hit his head on the sidewalk. This reportedly caused a brain bleed. The victim was later treated and released from the hospital.

According to Hall County Court documents, police arrested Contreras a few days later.

Court records show Contreras pled not guilty Tuesday to the assault charge. His trial is scheduled Oct. 20.

He’s being held in the Hall County jail on $100,000 bond.
