A 69-year-old man allegedly tried to force a “chemical-laced handkerchief” over the mouth of a 14-year-old boy as the child stood on a Roxbury street corner last week, and police later discovered “several chemical cleaning agents” inside the man’s vehicle, authorities said Monday.

Willie Cowart, of Dorchester, was arraigned July 29 in Roxbury Municipal Court on a sole count of felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, legal filings show.

He was released on personal recognizance and ordered to stay away from the teen and the location of the incident, pending an a hearing Oct. 29 for appointment of counsel‚ Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden’s office said in a statement.

Cowart couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
