A Passaic County woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following the death of her 6-year-old son, authorities said Tuesday.

Nakija Martin, 48, of Passaic, was arrested weeks after death of her son, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Police found the child unresponsive in the home, which is near Aspen Place and State Street, about 8:30 p.m. on July 15, Valdes said in a statement with local police.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene, Valdes said.

Prosecutors said Martin intended to kill her child, who had autism, and attempted to take her own life.

An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause and manner of the boy’s death.
