Nelson County High School’s golf team is partnering with Stoney Creek Golf Course at Wintergreen Resort for the upcoming season, allowing the high school’s players to practice and compete on a championship-level course.

Head coach Justin Durkee said for a number of years, the school’s golf team traveled to the Winton Farm Golf Course in Amherst to practice. He said the push for the team to partner with the Stoney Creek course was to achieve a “one Nelson mentality.”

“Anytime we can keep our partners here in Nelson, we want to do that,” he said.

Durkee also said the course in Nellysford is more challenging than the one they practiced on in Amherst, so there will be more opportunity for improvement.
