NORTH PLAINFIELD, N.J. (PIX11) -- North Plainfield mom Dominica Sedeno said life has essentially been in limbo since last month’s floods.

Her basement was destroyed, but she said she can’t make any repairs until her insurance company approves her claim.

“I keep calling the company, and they keep saying that it’s going to take time,” said Sedeno. “That’s all I know…there is nothing I can do in the meantime,” said Sedeno.

Neighbor Luz Ramos is dealing with extensive mold in her basement. She and her husband are living on the top floor of their home and slowly chipping away at the cleanup.

“We’ve been working every day, a little bit every day,” said Ramos.

Being down in her basement for extended periods of time is not safe, so Ramos is trying to break up the work.
