KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Officials in Jackson County, Missouri, are warning residents of a jury duty scam that's circulating.

"The 16th Judicial Circuit of Missouri cautions the public to be wary of a recent phone scam that falsely claims people will face punishment for missing jury service," a spokesperson said in a news release Wednesday.

"The scammer may use the name of an actual Jackson County circuit judge, and the call may appear to come from an official number."

County officials said the scammer tells you to pay money over the phone or through a website to avoid being arrested.
