COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa —

They're helping from behind the scenes.

"We don't see the students get the kits, because it goes to the school," Carly Weld, United Way of the Midlands director of volunteerism, said.

United Way spent the day putting together what they call "Shine Bright" kits. It's a bag full of personal hygiene products, including shampoo, laundry detergent and toothpaste.

"The items that are in the kits, we work closely with our education partners to make sure that we're meeting students' needs, so that they can focus on academic achievement in the classroom," Weld said.

These bags will go to Omaha Public Schools, Council Bluffs Community School District and Papillion La Vista Community Schools. United Way can't be there to hand them out, but they know their work is important
