OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It’s a common concern voiced by First Alert 6 viewers.

The growing number of unsheltered individuals is grabbing the attention of both the public and Omaha city officials — especially as homeless encampments continue to pop up around the metro.

While camps are often cleared out, they tend to return within weeks.

“The majority of reported camps are actually from the southeast part of the city… second closest was northeast,” said Tamara Dwyer, the city’s Homeless Services Coordinator.

A few weeks ago, we reported on a camp along Saddle Creek, causing concerns for nearby residents and businesses.

“We do have a few spots that are more hot spot areas more often than not,” Dwyer added.

That particular camp was cleared by law enforcement. But within weeks — it was back.
