SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Wednesday marked 25 years of service for the Iowa Poison Control Center.

The center, which is located in Sioux City, was founded in 1999. Since then, this 24/7 call service has responded to more than half-a-million poison emergencies from all 99 Iowa counties.

The center’s phone lines are available to anyone in Iowa, at any time. “Anyone can call the Poison Center,” said Josh Trebach, Iowa Poison Control Center assistant medical director. “You don’t have to... it’s not just to call to talk about your child that got into that mushroom. Sometimes it’s doctors and nurses calling to talk about patients that are in the ICU. So, we are helping everybody to make sure we’re keeping our poison patients safe.”
