MINOT, ND (KXNET) — The City of Minot is currently contending with its annual pest problem, but officials say they are facing difficulties due to competing city priorities.
Those little "varmints," they call them, whether they be ground squirrels or gophers, have been giving the city lots of trouble this year.
The City’s street department has been getting help from a local pest control service to control the pests' population, but is facing limitations on resources due to competing priorities. The pest control service uses snare traps, carbon monoxide gas for tunnels, and an air rifle when necessary, which the Minot Police Department approved.
The City says trapping and moving the pests isn't financially feasible or effective, since they are likely to return.
