WEST POINT, Iowa (WGEM) - The Sweet Corn Festival is nearing its return to southeast Iowa in West Point.

The festival runs from Aug. 7 to Aug. 10 this year, but in keeping with tradition, Aug. 6 marks Shuckfest day for West Point residents.

Starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, hundreds gathered at Merschman Seeds in West Point to shuck more than 10 tons worth of corn.

Shuckfest has become a staple within the West Point area, and every year it seems to bring more and more people into the fold.
