BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that a man in custody "tragically passed away."

According to a news release from the sheriff's office, an adult male passed away Wednesday evening while in custody.

"In accordance with the Policy and Procedure of the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, two deputies have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues," the sheriff's office said in the release.

Virginia State Police is reportedly investigating the death.

The sheriff's office stated that the name of the man and the deputies placed on leave will not be released at this time.
