MOUNT PLEASANT — A man walking his dog was met with a shock after a woman approached him, claimed she was an off-duty police officer and stole his chihuahua, police said.

The man had been walking his pet along a portion of Bank Street around 9:30 p.m. Aug. 3 when a woman told him he’d been mistreating the animal, according to an incident report. The woman, later identified as Paige Pedersen, 33, allegedly snatched the dog from him.

The man told Mount Pleasant police officers the incident played out like this:

He asked Pedersen to give him his small black and brown chihuahua back. She refused, stating she was an off-duty police officer and had a gun. Pedersen lifted up the back of her shirt and reached at her waistband, implying she was armed.
