August 9 will be a milestone day for Irondale and the State of Alabama, as one of the state’s longest-operating restaurants aims to break a Guinness World Record. City and state officials, including Governor Kay Ivey and Irondale Mayor James D. Stewart, Jr., are commemorating the occasion with proclamations officially declaring August 9 as Golden Rule BBQ & Grill Day.

Founded in 1891, Golden Rule BBQ & Grill has been serving Irondale and the surrounding community for 134 years. Recognized as one of Alabama’s oldest continuously operating restaurants, it has built a reputation for its barbecue and long-standing service to generations of families.

To celebrate the milestone, the restaurant is planning to sell 5,000 BBQ pork sandwiches in just 8 hours as part of a Guinness World Record atte
