GRESHAM, Ore. — A fire broke out at an apartment in Gresham Thursday morning, marking the second time the unit has had a fire within less than two weeks, according to the Gresham Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the apartment complex on Northeast 162nd Avenue and Halsey Street just after 4 a.m. The fire happened in a vacant unit that previously had a fire on July 26, according to Gresham Fire.

KGW spoke to a resident who said she noticed smoke coming from her neighbor's unit. While investigators haven't released the cause of the fire, the resident said she believes a neighbor started it.

"I went through my front door and saw smoke, and so I woke up my roommate, grabbed her cats and got out," Lev said. "This is not the first time this neighbor has started a fire."
