BOSTON —
A 37-year-old East Boston man was arrested Wednesday, accused of assaulting someone with a hammer at a neighborhood bakery earlier in the week.
Boston police said a man reported to officers on Tuesday that he had been attacked by a man with a hammer earlier that morning.
According to the victim, at about 6:30 a.m., he was entering a bakery at 40 Maverick Square when a man he did not know approached and asked to use his cellphone. The man said he did not have a phone and went into the bakery. When the man left the bakery and was walking back to his car, the same man struck him in the head with a hammer, police said.
Police said they used images to identify the suspect, who they saw Wednesday evening sitting on the front steps of a Paris Street building. Eric Vargas was arrested
