WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) -- There's a new place along the Purple Heart Trail in the Mahoning Valley: Warren has been recognized as a Purple Heart City.
The designation has just been put up. It's along Route 422 at the city limit sign. It shows a purple heart medal surrounded by the words, "Purple Heart City, Warren, Ohio."
"The recognition and the respect I get wherever I go with my Purple Heart is amazing," said Purple Heart recipient Leo Connelly. "This area here is probably more service-oriented than any area I've ever been in. They take care of their own."
It recognizes that the city has demonstrated a commitment to honoring veterans and hopes you realize the sacrifice it took for freedom and to respect those who earned a Purple Heart medal.
"That's our way of bringing the awareness," C
