Former WBZ-TV news anchor Kate Merrill asserted in a federal lawsuit that she was forced out of her job over unfounded allegations of racial bias, while her own complaint accusing a colleague of inappropriate behavior was ignored as the network moved to advance “a DEI agenda.”

The defendants’ actions ended up “harming Ms. Merrill in the eyes of her professional community and significantly damaging Ms. Merrill’s personal and professional reputation,” according to her 57-page civil complaint, filed Tuesday in US District Court in Boston.

Her suit names WBZ-TV, Paramount Global, WBZ anchor Courtney Cole, former WBZ president and general manager Justin Draper, WBZ meteorologist Jason Mikell, and Paramount employee relations vice president Michael Roderick as defendants.
