CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mache Ulysses Darby will spend between 16 and 20 years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty in a crash that claimed the life of a man visiting friends in Charlotte about eight months ago.
In court Thursday, the 40-year-old Darby agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder in order to consolidate five charges. He did have a prior conviction.
The crash happened in Uptown Charlotte on Dec. 1, 2024. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department , Darby was speeding when he hit and killed 23-year-old Ryan Zadronzny, who was in a crosswalk. Police at the time said Darby did not stop to render aid after hitting Zadronzny. Two other people walking with Zadronzny were not hurt in the incident.
