PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- A law signed by Gov. JB Pritzker would add rewilding as a conservation strategy for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

At a national level, the strategy can be seen at its most successful in the national park Yosemite, where they added wolves back into the wild to deal with deer populations.

The Illinois law gives more tools for IDNR to balance its ecosystems. They could add more Beavers and Bison, who are keynote species that are known for keeping their environments healthier. Healthier environments could mean fewer floods, which could, in theory, save the state billions of dollars.
