FORT MADISON (WGEM) - A discovery of mold at the Lee County EMS station in Fort Madison has prompted workers to move into an Airbnb until a new facility is complete.
EMS Director Mark Long said a worker expressed concern late last week over moisture that had built on a drop ceiling tile in the kitchen. Long detected mold when the tile was removed.
Within 24 hours, crews were moved into a local Airbnb.
Long said this isn’t the first time there has been a problem at the 1316 18th St. location.
“We’ve had some issues in the past with mold in this building,” Long said. “[One year ago] the county brought someone in and remediated it and pulled dry-wall. We thought it was in better shape, but we found this.”
