JACKSON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - After two semitruck crashes within 24 hours on I-94 near Jackson, transportation officials and drivers alike are urging more caution through construction zones.
Both crashes happened in the eastbound lanes between Cooper Street and Elm Road, an area currently under a chip seal project to preserve the pavement. Temporary lane shifts were in place at the time.
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials say they believe distracted driving and speeding contributed to both incidents.
Jackson drivers like Randy Kirkland shared their own strategies for staying safe in fast-changing traffic conditions.
“If you come upon something like that where you have to stop suddenly, what I like to do is throw my hazards on,” Kirkland said. “Let the car behind me
