MARTIN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - While the start of the school year is still weeks away for many, some Eastern Carolina students are already back in the classroom.

For Bear Grass Charter School students, the first day back to school is brimming with anticipation for what the upcoming year could bring.

“I’m excited for my new classes and to be taking higher level classes,” Sophomore Lilly Rogerson says. “I’m excited for all my new friends and everything.”

As Bear Grass Charter School students get familiar with new teachers and schedules, the school is welcoming its own changes.

“We’ve added the fifth grade at Bear Grass Charter School this school year,” Principal Patricia Speller says, “and our enrollment is at nearly 550 students.”
