GILA BEND, Ariz. — Six highway technicians say they happened to be in the right place at the right time when a woman in Gila Bend desperately needed help.
A crew of workers for the Arizona Department of Transportation were just starting their day Wednesday morning at a maintenance yard when they started to hear an unusual noise.
“We all kept asking each other, 'Did you hear that? Yeah, I heard it too,'” David Robledo, one of the highway technicians, said during an exclusive interview with 12News.
Robledo and the rest of the crew began to investigate and noticed the sounds were pleas for help coming from about half a mile away. The technicians would eventually discover a 58-year-old woman trapped in a water canal and clinging to a tire.
