RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — People swarmed the State Farmer's Market today to celebrate Watermelon Day. Despite it being a rainy Thursday afternoon, many said they had to make a visit to find the biggest and juiciest watermelon yet.
"We heard it was Watermelon Day, and we wanted to see if there was one we could take home," said Madilyn Maddruy.
Many vendors showcased their largest melons.
Lynne Diehl works at Ronnie Moore's Farms and she told CBS 17 News Shanila Kabir that Raleigh is home to at least three different types of watermelon — all grown locally by our neighborhood farmers.
