Evacuations issued for area south of The Dalles due to fire

THE DALLES, Ore. — Level 3 evacuation orders due to a fire near The Dalles issued Thursday evening have been downgraded to Level 1.

The Wasco County Sheriff's Office initially sent out Level 3 "Go Now" evacuation orders for the west side of Steels Road to Highway 197 to Five Mile Road, then, an hour later, downgraded them to Level 1 "Go Now." There are also Level 2 "Get Set" evacuation orders for south of Five Mile Road.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal said it is mobilizing air support in the form of three single-engine scoopers. Mid Columbia Fire and Rescue crews are also fighting the blaze.
