SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Thursday night, a handful of Siouxland residents, including one of KTIV’s own reporters, geared up to get some hands-on firefighting experience.
Thursday marked the second week of Sioux City Fire Rescue’s Citizens Fire Academy.
The program takes place over 9 weeks. Anyone 18 years old or older can have the chance to learn more about the fire department and how it operates.
Thursday night, those taking part got to learn about firefighting gear, how to wear it, how to use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, also known as SCBAs.
They ended the night by learning how to search a trailer and go through an SCBA obstacle course.
Among them was KTIV’s Gabriela Quiñones. She will participate in the full academy and share all her experiences once it’s complete.
