MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Town of Mountain City hosted a special-called meeting on Thursday regarding the recently approved Bitcoin facility rezoning.

The Mountain City council approved on first reading on July 1 a proposed rezoning that would allow a Bitcoin mining facility to move to 178 Rainbow Road. The facility, owned by Nevada-based company CleanSpark, would bring a 30-megawatt facility to the 50-acre site.

Thursday, leaders discussed Ordinance 2044, which would rezone 178 Rainbow Road from a B3 to a B4. According to Town of Mountain City Mayor Jerry Jordan, a B4 property has more restrictions than a B3.

Jordan told News Channel 11 at the meeting that he believes the Town of Mountain City does not "want to give [Bitcoin] a chance."
