I missed this yesterday in all the transactions, but right-hander Walker Powell was promoted from Double-A Knoxville to Triple-A Iowa.

The Iowa Cubs were excommunicated by the St. Paul Saints (Twins), 6-5.

Starter Brandon Birdsell took the loss after he gave up six runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. Three of the six runs were unearned but, the error was Birdsell’s own that opened the gates. So as I always like to say, were they really all that unearned? In any case, Birdsell struck out five and walked two.

Left fielder Kevin Alcántara hit a massive three-run home run in the third inning, his 14th on the year. Alcántara was 1 for 4 with a walk.

DH Carlos Pérez went 1 for 4 with an RBI double. He also walked once and scored on Alcántara’s home run.
