LEXINGTON, Ky. — Over 103,00 Americans are on the national organ transplant waiting list and every eight minutes another person is added to the list according to the Health Resources and Services Administration.
Sharon Hays has lived in Kentucky her whole life and she’s one of nearly 9,500 Americans awaiting a liver donation.
“It’s been about four years where it’s really gotten bad,” Hays said.
It all started 15 years ago when she received a life-changing diagnosis related to her pancreas.
“The doctors found a birth defect called pancreatic divisum , and I began to have stents put in over that 10–12-year period, and they had put in so many stents that it was so scarred,” Hays said.
