OMAHA, Neb. —

A stretch of road in Northwest Omaha is getting a makeover with safety in mind.

Starting Monday, August 11th, 108th Street from Emmet Street to Ellison Plaza will undergo a lane refiguration and restriping process.

The city says the road gets less traffic than it was designed for, and that's making it prone to speeding drivers and crashes.

A crash history study unveiled that from 2018 - 2025, there were 289 crashes on that stretch of street; 7 resulted in serious injury.

Right now, there are two lanes of traffic in each direction on the street, the project will reduce that to one lane in each direction. A center turn lane is also being added.

The speed limit is being lowered to 30 MPH, previously it was 45 MPH.
