PEORIA, Ariz. — Valley police have made an arrest in a nearly twenty-year-old case.
In collaboration with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, the Peoria Police Department arrested 43-year-old Stephen Lipton in connection with a 2009 kidnapping and sexual assault of a child, a news release states.
Lipton was taken into custody on July 31 after a recent DNA match, police said.
The investigation into the case began in January 2009. An 8-year-old reported being approached by a man while she was walking home from a nearby elementary school.
The suspect, who police said posed as a police officer and claimed to be a friend of the girl's mother, allegedly convinced the child to get into his vehicle.
