SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Nearly 200 immigrants arrived in Iowa back in January to seek a better way of life. Shortly after, new federal government guidelines halted all refugee resettlement services, nationwide.

The mission of one local organization was to help those refugees who migrated to the Hawkeye state, get back on their feet.

Filling the soul with tradition. Refugees dancing with a flair not so familiar to the Midwest, but custom to the place they once called home.

“I was born in Ethiopia. I grew up in Kenya,” said Abdullahi Yusuf.

At the age of 15, Abdullahi Yusuf along with his family, migrated thousands of miles away to the land of opportunity. He knows first-hand what these refugees are experiencing.

“New country, new language, new culture and new everything,” said Yusuf.
